AI-Assisted Workflows: Define Permissions Before Automation

05 Jul 2026 · Nabberx Editorial Team · 2 Min Read

AI-assisted workflows can support knowledge access and repetitive tasks, but adoption needs clear permissions, evaluation criteria and operational ownership. The level of autonomy should follow the approved use case.

Separate assistance from execution

Drafting a response, recommending an action and executing a system change carry different responsibilities. Define each step explicitly. Start with assistance that can be reviewed before considering more consequential automated actions.

Use authorised information sources

Connect only approved knowledge and business records. Scope the interfaces, access roles and retention arrangements involved. Evaluate how an output might expose information across user groups, and test those boundaries with representative scenarios.

Design exception handling

Describe what happens when inputs are incomplete, confidence is insufficient or a request falls outside scope. Provide an escalation route and record actions that require approval. A fallback process keeps ownership clear when the automated path cannot complete the task.

Validate the operating model

Assess output quality, permission enforcement and user experience before deployment. Record limitations and review unexpected results. Expansion should follow demonstrated usefulness and an updated scope rather than assumptions about autonomous capability.

Questions to take into discovery

  • Which actions require human approval?
  • What happens when a request falls outside scope?
  • Which logs and reviews support accountability?

Nabberx can help evaluate AI-assisted workflows and their integration, validation and governance requirements.
